Paris - Born Again

Good Monday to all, Henry here again. Apparently Paris Hilton’s crippling mystery disease has improved to the point where she was well enough to be returned to her cell, but the entire ordeal was not a waste of time: She has converted. She has been born again. For the second time. That was fast. It only took a couple of days.
According to the Daily Tellegraph: “She said her jail sentence was a message from God to change her party-loving lifestyle and become a positive role model for the fans that look up to her.”
I suppose that time in jail could serve as such a shock that it might awaken someone to the realities of life, but I remain skeptical. It sounds like her spin doctor’s have been hard at work, doesn’t it?
The conversions we read about in Holy Books tend to happen after terrible suffering on the part of the convert and they are always powerful experiences. Saul was knocked off his donkey and saw a vision and had his name changed to St. Paul. He spent the next two years in the dessert working things out. Apparently he had a lot of thinking to do. No word on how the experience affected the donkey.
Paris may do something similar. Perhaps she will go into seclusion where she can sort out the meaning of her life and where she should invest her talents, youthful energy and eventual fortune.
In my experience, jailhouse conversions are of two kinds. The inmate decides that they have offended the community’s rules enough and they will try to be a “good boy or girl”, basically that this lifestyle is not working for them, which is the unavoidable conclusion of being in jail. “This situation is sub-optimal. Perhaps I should try something new.” Sometimes they do. The other kind is more like St. Paul’s, a genuine religious conversion. The person has their world broken open and they see much that they never saw before. If Paris’ conversion is real, perhaps she will start using her popularity and considerable fortune to help the less fortunate. We’ll have to wait and see. Personally, I’m holding my breath.
