Letter To Santa
Henry here. Some letters to Santa would break your heart. Canadian Press reported recently that some letters are very sad. One child asks Santa to take a cookie to his father in Heaven, another wants the family back together again. The story goes on: “There are even standardized letters for children reporting sexual or physical abuse, those who say they want to end their lives.”
What a double bind for children. When they line up to sit on Santa’s lap in the mall he invariably asks them what they want for Christmas, meaning what toy, but for many of those children what they really want is a friend, or to have their family back together again
It is like in the “Grinch that Stole Christmas” story. Perhaps Christmas after all does not come from a store. Perhaps a lot of children need more love and attention and fewer toys. At least that is the way that I see it. You never know, it certainly hasn’t been tried yet.
