The Election: Well. There You Go.
Greetings all, Steve here. Well, they asked and the people answered. People are always talking about the people, as if there’s huge crowd of people just around the corner, but the people actually came out of the woodwork and voted the Hell out of things last night. On behalf of all Canadians, let me say thank you. Being Canadian can be difficult, because it often feels like most of the major decisions are being made down South and that you can’t do much about them. We just sort of sit around, freezing our naughty bits off, saying, “What are they doing down there?!”
I spent quite a while watching the election coverage Tuesday night, flipping between CNN and the movie Cool Runnings, about the Jamaican bobsled team, so basically it was a night of huge long shot comebacks. The Democrats pretty much took everything, despite some concern over potential problems with the new electronic voting systems. I don’t know what the problem was: As everyone knows, computers always wkdorbhdk right evgkderkhy ti$^m$e#$! There was major concern on this issue, however, as apparently the machines at one voting site had a “problem with a squirrel.” Democracy at work.
It seems that most of the Democrats had their speeches prepared by Big Bob’s House Of Generic, Meaningless and Obvious Campaign Speeches. Apparently people voted for change, are looking for a new way to the future and some people voted for a change in the new future of the way. I was shocked to learn that so many people could talk for so long while using only 8 words. This is apparently supposed to be terribly meaningful.
But it was a night of many surprises. Asked for comment this morning, President Bush took a moment to reflecton everything that had happened, and then said, “Oh, crap” Indeed. This will change the way business is done in Washington. The president realised that he was going to have to co-operate with both parties and in a gesture of reconciliation this morning, he had Donald Rumsfeld taken outside and shot.
Should be an interesting couple of years.
