Killed In The Evacuation

Hurricane Katrina
Henry today. Listening to TV last night I heard a woman say that her husband had been murdered in New Orleans during katrina. Apparently he was diabetic and weighed 380 lbs. My understanding is that the staff was abandoning the hospital and was unable to get him down from the sixth floor. So instead of some other solution they apparently gave him, and some other patients an overdose and killed them.

The wife is utterly devastated by the staff’s response to her husband’s situation. It does seem most bizarre, but she seemed to be convinced that it had happened. I got the impression that the case is being investigated by the police.

It is really unthinkable that staff could kill people so as to facilitate an evacuation, but Katrina was an extraordinary situation. With these kinds of stories and realities, can we be surprised that many people in New Orleans have not got over what they are now calling Katrita after the two hurricanes that devastated the Gulf Cost?

It will take a long time to rebuild the city. It will obviously take an even longer time for people to deal with their own psychological wounds from these awful kinds of events. For many people Katrita will be the defining experience of their lives.
