Ain’t Love Grand?

Good day, Henry here. Love makes the world go round, as the old song says. We all know this is true. It is love we long for, celebrate when we find it and gamble our lives on.

Yet the search for love and the strange, twisted ways what passes for love appear make us scratch our heads. Some days ago I cut a clipping from the paper of an article from The Associated Press which tells the story of a man who is charged in court with forcing his girlfriend to swallow her cellphone.

“Prosecutors say a man shoved a cellphone down his girlfriend’s throat because he was angry and jealous. But the defense insisted as a trial got underway that the woman swallowed the phone intentionally to keep him from seeing whom she had been talking to.”

The article doesn’t say who won the case, but on some level it probably doesn’t matter. What is amazing is that after incidents such as this both partners will often say that their partner is “the love of my life.”

How damaged people must be to call such abuse love. It isn’t love, it is sadistic behavior driven by a paranoid kind of jealousy and a lack of self worth in the partner. What terrible childhoods they must have had.
