He Started It!
Henry here. Do you remember how we used to fight when we were kids? In the normal course of things someone decided that they had been slighted, and they struck back. When the adults came to try to settle things, our classic defense was: “He/she started it!”
In our childish minds, this was a perfectly valid argument. It was the other guy’s fault. We are the injured party and totally innocent. It took us years to learn that “it takes two to tango”. In most of these situations, we were both at fault.
Surely this doesn’t happen between nations with adults making the decisions. Yet here we are with Israel and its neighbors having this same childish argument. I see by CBC that Israel killed 40 Canadians in its latest air strikes.
In the wisdom of the leaders on both sides, all the bloodshed, destruction and killings must be worth it. Three soldiers missing and the solution is to start what looks like all out war. Surely there is a better way-at least that is what our parents told us.
