Some People Just Can’t Make Up Their Minds

Steve here. Ya know, a lot of people are walking around, apparently completely without the ability to make decisions. I know this is true. It’s also o.k. Everybody’s different and we need some balance in this world. Too many of us make decisions too quickly, without thinking them through and by the time we realize we’ve made a mistake, we’re already embarked on a new career as a short-sighted lion tamer or something. So balance is important.
But being able to make up your mind doesn’t hurt either. I saw this guy at the bus stop the other day. He looked very serious and he was holding a gold-embossed Holy Bible. That’s o.k. It’s a good book and I can see you might want to have it around. And anyway, lots of people are carrying around Thinner Thighs, Improved Self-Image, so he was doing o.k. there. He also had a crucifix around his neck. Seemd a ibt like overkill to me, what with the Bible and all, but I could still go with that. But he also had a huge Yin/Yang symbol around his neck. And a Star Of David. And 5 or 6 other Asian religious symbols I didn’t recognize.
Now, it struck me that there were two possiblities here. He might have been a powerfully multi-cultural person, open-minded and inclusive, incorporating elements of all their different faiths and spiritualities into his own personal religious world view. Then again, maybe he just couldn’t make up his mind.
I considered asking him whether he was just hedging his bets, but I decided not to, since if he were truly that confused, I might have set myself up for an hour’s conversation that I’d eternally regret. Some people just make you wonder.

Maybe he’s in-between beliefs

True enough, he may be. However, he’s in between a lot of them, don’t ya think? He either lacks the ability to make decisions or the ability to stick with anything. Sorta sad, either way.
