Another Fact From Cliffy

Something I received this morning from my brother Greg, a veritable fountain of random information. A disturbing thought for those of us trying to loose weight.

Yesterday, I was talking with a toxicologist and
they were saying that the average person eats quite a bit of dirt every
day, enough that they need to calculate how much when people live near
contaminated sites. Then I remembered Dad saying that his mother said
that everyone eats a peck of dirt in their lives.

So here goes:
1 Peck = 8.8L (a peck is a volume measure)

Average dirt intake = 337mg/day X 365 days X 85 years = 10 540g per
lifetime.

Given the density of dirt is about 1.7Kg/L, that makes 2.054 Kg/1.7
Kg/L = 6.202 L

I find that fairly freakily accurate. ……although given that they
lived on a farm, that is probably an underestimate.
