What Drives Political Murderers

Henry here. Slobodan Milošević cheated the hangman. I’m against capital punishment on principle because mistakes can be and are made. It is hard to see how any mistake could be made, however, in the case of Serbian x-leader.

He seems to have been responsible for at least 200,000 deaths. Perhaps he killed himself, or was murdered. The problem remains what should the international community do with such people? Some Serbs will no doubt turn him into a martyr, whether he deserves that or not. Many others will continue to hate him and his actions.

What is bizarre to me is that, despite repeated evidence that the chickens do eventually come home to roost, that we eventually have to face the consequence of our actions, people have the arrogance to think that they will get away with the kind of massacres he seems to have engineered.

What is the psychological make up of people who think they can get away with such actions? Is it as simple as saying that they are psychopaths or sociopaths? The cover themselves with the cloak of nationalism, but is that an adequate explanation for their actions? It seems to me that someone like this is like Hitler, twisted emotionally.
