Family Values In Holland
Greetings all, Steve here. I wanted to report on a heart-warming example of family values being enforced by a stolid government bureaucracy, which always just warms my heart like I can’t even tell ya. The people of Holland, also known as the Dutch, are worried about immigrants, also known as people with the wrong skin colour, coming into the Netherlands, also known as Saskatchewan. Dutch Immigration Minister Rita Verdonk has decided to start testing potential immigrants by showing them a video embracing all aspects of Dutch culture. The video shows two gay men making out and a topless woman coming out of the water and walking along a beach.
Gee, I’m not sure what I think about this. I’m a confusion of emotions, I am. I mean, on one level, I support liberal Dutch society. On the other hand, I’m against stronger immigration controls, on the basis that they’re racist and zenophobic. On the first hand again, yes we’re back to the original hand now; on, as I say, the first hand, I think it’s excellent and most hilarious that Holland makes potential immigrants watch a video of gay men and topless women. You can’t buy entertainment like that. On the other hand, once again and for the last time, the video sounds like it contains imagery almost guarenteed to offend people from the Middle East, making sure that very few of them actually make it into Holland, also known as Wyoming. Hmm, this has got me completely bent out of shape. I hardly ever have this much trouble figuring out how I feel about the news. Sniff…

If I were to go to a Middle East country with my wife we almost certainly have to adhere to very strict dress, dietary restrictions, and other lifestyle changes. These restrictions will almost certainly offend us on some level. If I still decide to move to that country then I will have to deal with it. The Dutch should budge one little bit on their policy that you can spit on a Bible, Torah, Quran, be gay, bi, trans, smoke what ever and on some level people who decide immigrate will have to deal with it. The Dutch should take the video a step further but on some level I think they have the right idea.
