More Random Christmas Nostalgia:The Sleigh Ride

I’ve been thinking about a number of Christmas memories from my childhood. Our Young Peoples group decided to have a Christmas sleigh ride. Living in a small city surrounded by farms we didn’t all go in one big wagon. No my cousin, who has since died, rounded up 6 or 7 horses in one horse sleigh’s. He was a city boy and new nothing about horses. I think the farmers who were to become his in-laws rounded up the horses and sleighs assuming that he knew about horses.
We started off with 6 or 7 teens on each sleigh. We were singing Christmas carols, snuggling up and having a lovely time. Our minister was proving to be much cooler that we had thought he was. Snow, Moon shining out of the sky, Christmas carols, and people calling to each other from sleigh to sleigh. Everything was going swimmingly until our horse started up over a bank of snow. We were all quite shaken up and it became clear that my cousin had no idea what he was doing. It looked as if he was going to get us all into trouble. The horse was getting frightened, and so were we. I began to look like this perfect evening was being ruined.
I was no expert with horses, but I had spent my summers on a farm where I worked horses in the field. I took the reigns, to the immense delight of my cousin. We settled down and went along quietly. It eventually became the magical evening it started out to be. All of us were pleased with ourselves. I remember it as a magical Christmas Moment when everything eventually fit together and the world seemed beautiful and perfect.
Would anyone like to share one of their Christmas Moments, either good of bad?
